The Green Burial Council, a national organization committed to eco-friendly death care through extensive outreach and certification has approved and certified Holy Sepulchre Cemetery and Ascension Garden with Green Burial Certification—a first for any Catholic Cemetery in New York State.
The two green burial sections, Trinity at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery and St. Francis Meadow at Ascension Garden have undergone extensive ecological assessments and meet all the standards of the Council, therefore are officially certified. The Council is stewarded by individuals representing the environmental/conservation community, consumer organizations, academia, and organizations such as The Nature Conservancy and The Trust for Public Land.
“Green or natural” burials have increased in popularity in our community and trends indicate additional growth in the next three to five years.
